Leadership in Advanced
Manufacturing

Fostering Collaboration and Cutting-Edge Research

Around 2010, Professor Fred van Houten from UT was discussing advanced manufacturing solutions with senior members of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Europe’s largest application-oriented research organisation. Manufacturing was clearly driving economic growth in the province of Overijssel, but there were further opportunities to be taken advantage of with the right training, equipment, and access to cutting-edge research.

Professor Van Houten’s desire to drive innovation brought Fraunhofer IPT, University of Twente, and Saxion University of Applied Sciences together to create the Fraunhofer Project Center (FPC) in 2017. This collaboration created a new hub for manufacturing solutions in the Netherlands.

Continuing the vision of Professor Van Houten and to better reflect our commitment to empowering industrial innovation, in 2022, we changed to the Fraunhofer Innovation Platform for Advanced Manufacturing at the University of Twente (FIP-AM@UT).

At FIP-AM@UT we are a cooperative network of multifaceted organisations, fostering innovation in manufacturing. Our applied research, relevant content, and impactful demonstrators contribute to the expansion of our industry, while innovative solutions and knowledge-transfer help our industry’s capabilities to grow. We are the experts in the Netherlands for integrated manufacturing solutions, and committed to helping regional organisations evolve with the latest technology.

What We Do

At FIP-AM@UT, we are dedicated to expanding manufacturing capabilities and competencies in the Netherlands and beyond. We specialise in helping organisations become adept with complex, digitally-driven manufacturing systems and develop core competencies to expand our project and service portfolio.

We focus on creating innovative solutions for manufacturers around:

Digital Twinning

Computer-Aided Engineering and Manufacturing

Additive Manufacturing

Artifical Intelligence in Manufacturing

Manufacturing Systems

Digitally driven manufacturing solutions in these areas often require hands-on training opportunities, technical support, and an understanding of project design. We work with organisations to help them design projects with cutting-edge research and the latest technology. Together with academic research excellence from the University of Twente and a breath of industrial experience from Fraunhofer IPT, we develop industry-leading applied research and training to support even your most ambitious projects.

FIP-AM@UT creates demonstrators and testbeds to allow organisations hands-on testing and learning opportunities through our living shopfloor – the Advanced Manufacturing Centre.

Benefits of Working With Us

The goal at FIP-AM@UT is to help our local manufacturing industry thrive and expand. By offering training and consulting in key technological areas, we are supporting job growth and market growth in the region.

FIP-AM@UT offers access to cutting-edge, high tech equipment for organisations to experiment and find the right solutions to create innovative products. Demonstrations, simulations, and trainings help you discover new opportunities to bring your ideas to life.

Our robust network of manufacturing professionals and researchers makes FIP-AM@UT the perfect environment to collaborate on projects and find the support you need.

Plus, by working with FIP-AM@UT, you can gain access to regional support funding and project collaboration subsidies that give you the resources to tackle big projects.

Available fundings through FIP-AM@UT to empower your organisation to work with research experts and test the latest technology.

Advanced Manufacturing Program

This funding program aims to support you in your transformation to Manufacturing 4.0. The AMP is made possible through the RegioDeal that is supported by Provincie Overijssel and the Dutch state.

REACT

On 28 May 2020, the Commission proposed the Recovery assistance for cohesion and the territories of Europe (REACT-EU) package to mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic for the regions most hit by the crisis.

To support SMEs in the manufacturing industry in their digital transition and innovation, the FIP-AM@UT is, with support of the European contribution from REACT-EU, investing in the development of the Advanced Manufacturing Centre (AMC): a test factory for the manufacturing industry. With this, FIP-AM@UT takes an important next step in our mission to support companies in their journey to Industry 4.0.
